THE ADVENTURE
The Tour des Muverans is one of the most breathtaking and lesser-known circuits in the Swiss Alps - a 55 km loop that circles the twin peaks of the Grand and Petit Muveran. It combines steep limestone passes, turquoise lakes, and traditional alpine refuges with moments of pure stillness in wild, untamed valleys.
This Challenging / Tough route (see how we categorise levels of difficulty here) is perfect for motivated individuals who train regularly and want to challenge themselves across altitude, distance, and rugged mountain terrain - all within a supportive, guided environment.
Each day brings a new perspective, new terrain, and new camaraderie forged through shared effort.
Day 0 - Arrival - 10th September – Refuge Lac de Derborence
Arrive in the afternoon at Refuge Lac de Derborence, a charming mountain auberge beside a serene glacial lake, surrounded by steep limestone cliffs. The refuge has been awarded the "Saveurs du Valais" label, certifying its skill in using local products and cooking Valais dishes. Enjoy a welcome dinner and briefing with your Mountain Coach guides and fellow Elevate members before settling in for your first night in the mountains. The food here is excellent.
Overnight: Refuge Lac de Derborence – mountain refuge (shared accommodation)
Day 1 - 11th September – Refuge Lac de Derborence → Cabane Rambert (2,580 m)
Approx. 11 km | 1,400 m ascent | 290 m descent.
The adventure begins with a climb from the valley floor through pine forests and open alpine slopes. Gradually, the views expand across the Rhône Valley as the trail ascends to the lofty Cabane Rambert, perched high beneath the Grand Muveran. It’s a tough first day - but the rewards are immense. Sunset views from the cabane are some of the finest in the Alps.
Overnight: Cabane Rambert – mountain refuge (shared accommodation)
Day 2 – 12th September - Cabane Rambert → Cabane du Demècre
Approx. 14 km | 950 m ascent | 1,200 m descent
We begin with a steady descent before tackling the impressive Col du Demècre, crossing into the wilder western side of the massif. The terrain is varied - rocky and remote in the upper reaches, opening to meadows and panoramic views over the Rhône plain as we descend.
The Cabane du Demècre sits dramatically on a ridge above the valley - a warm, welcoming refuge and the perfect spot to unwind after a big day.
Overnight: Cabane du Demècre – remote mountain refuge (shared accommodation). Note: it is customary at this very remote refuge for guests to get involved in the preparation of meals and tidying them away.
Day 3 – 13th September - Cabane du Demècre → Auberge du Pont de Nant
Approx. 16 km | 800 m ascent | 1,900 m descent
Today is a journey through contrasts - from limestone cliffs to lush valleys, from rugged solitude to pastoral charm. We cross quiet balcony paths, gaining the ridge that leads us toward the Vallon de Nant, one of the most beautiful protected valleys in Switzerland. We end the day at Auberge du Pont de Nant, a traditional alpine inn at the foot of dramatic cliffs - a place of warmth, offering traditional, seasonal cuisine to a very high standard.
Overnight: Auberge du Pont de Nant. This mountain inn is the best accommodation we'll have experienced thus far and the food will be outstanding. Our sleeping arrangements remain dormitory.
Day 4 – 14th September - Auberge du Pont de Nant → Solalex → Montreux
Approx. 15 km | 1350 m ascent | 1,150 m descent
Our final day includes a steep climb to Cabane de Plan Névé. The cabane offers a memorable viewpoint and the chance for a well-earned refreshment. From the hut, a steep descent brings us back to the main trail at the Col des Essets, from which we begin the long descent towards Solalex, where a private transfer will take us onwards to Montreux. There, after a tough 4 days, we will celebrate in style at the somewhat luxury Eden Palace au Lac.
The following morning, with mixed feelings of elation and sadness to leave the alps, members will make their way home.
Accommodation & Experience
Each night brings a new experience - from the high perch of Cabane Rambert, to the panoramic ridge of Cabane du Demècre, the welcoming Auberge du Pont de Nant, and finally the lakeside comfort of Montreux. Accommodation is shared but comfortable, with hearty Swiss meals, and genuine alpine hospitality. Please note that due to the remoteness of this adventure, we’ll often be sleeping in a dorm environment, which means shared, mixed gender, lodging.

PREPARATION
This isn’t a trip you simply sign up for - it’s a shared multi-month journey of readiness, guided by Mountain Coach and supported from the studio by the ELEVATE Fitness team.
From January through September 2026, you’ll be part of the Adventure Readiness Journey. It’s designed to flex as much as possible around your busy life and the extent to which you engage with it is totally up to you. If you do, it will build your mountain fitness and conditioning and it will mentally prepare you to get the most from your adventure in the Alps in the Autumn. It includes:
-
Monthly “Mountain Ready” sessions at ELEVATE - gym-based conditioning focused on the strength, stamina, and movement patterns needed for mountain success.
-
Three optional alpine conditioning days led by Mountain Coach in the British mountains - practical, confidence-building days that feed valuable feedback into your studio training and these days strengthen group cohesion.
-
Support from Mountain Coach through resources, education and guidance, delivered both proactively via staggered emails and reactively via a private WhatsApp group just for your adventure group.
By the time you reach Switzerland, you’ll be ready – both mentally and physically prepared and part of a close-knit community sharing the same goal.
